Request for Prayers and Donations for Puerto Rico

Posted by on Sep 25, 2017 in Updates

As most of you are aware, Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017, making landfall at the Bishop’s hometown of Yabucoa. Early reports indicate that the majority of municipal buildings there, including the hospital, were destroyed, and, at the time of this notice, the Bishop has not yet heard from his family.

Many of the roads are impassible, cell towers are down, and while the airport has been reopened, inbound flights have been cancelled. It is estimated that electricity will not be fully back on across the island for six months.

We are asking you all continue to pray for the people of Puerto Rico, both those on the island, and those here, including Bishop Morales, Abbot Luis, Fr. Harold, and Brother Noel, whose families are there. It is a time of overwhelming concern for all involved.

If you are able, please also consider making a donation toward the relief efforts on the island You may either click on the button below to donate via PayPal or send a check made out to the Diocese of Quincy with a notation in the memo “Hurricane Relief Fund”. Checks should be sent to the Diocesan Center, 4911 N. Knoxville Ave., Peoria, IL 61614.

The Bishop and the office staff would like to thank all of you who have reached out to assure them of your prayers. They are much appreciated.
