logo- Diocese of Quincy

The Diocese of Quincy serves nineteen Counties in the western portion of Central Illinois.

These counties show a range of population size from Peoria and Rock Island Counties, which have large populations and large commercial and industrial bases, to Calhoun County, which is a sparsely populated peninsula, bounded by the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers, in the far southern tip of the diocese.

The site of the cathedral is Peoria.

The Bishop of Quincy is the Rt. Rev. Keith L. Ackerman, DD, SSC

The Diocese of Illinois was organized in 1835. Bishop Philander Chase, formerly of Ohio, was called as Bishop and located at Jubilee some 15 miles west of Peoria. The Diocese of Illinois was divided in 1877 into three dioceses, one of which was Quincy. Recently Woodford county was transferred from the Diocese of Chicago.
