B.A. In General Ministry with Preaching Emphasis from Lincoln Christian University (2008). Currently finish Mdiv at Nashotah House

Work Experience:
Summer work as golf course grounds maintenance and landscaper since 2002. 2009-2012 Senior Minister at Christ’s View Christian Church, Christopher, IL. Currently working on the maintenance crew at Nashotah House during summer break.

Favorite ministry experience:
Eating steamed cat tails (the plant, not the animal part) with Gene Clark in Lovington, IL.

Most challenging ministry experience:
Stepping into the role of senior minister at a congregation that had had a split less than a year before. The previous minister was fired and started a new church literally 6 blocks down the road from the church I was called to pastor.

Describe your call to ministry:
My call to ministry started with a hunch that I should go to Bible College after surrendering my life to Jesus at 22 years old because I am never one to do something half way. The next four years (five years counting the year I attended Lincoln Christian Seminary) were a process of having an inkling that I was called to ministry affirmed and re-enforced until I came to the realization that God had been calling me to ministry the whole time. The final piece of the discernment puzzle fell into place for me when I came to the realization that I honestly couldn’t think of anything else I would rather do with my life than to give all of my energy to being a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Who has influenced you:
J.K. Jones, Brother Lawrence, Eugene Peterson, St. Benedict, Wendell Berry, John Hartford, my dad, The Duke, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Fr. Alexander Schmemann. In the words of the poet James Buffet, “I’ve read dozens of books about heroes and crooks and I’ve learned much from both of their styles.”

I have a weakness for…
bad pop music and taking selfies (not necessarily both at the same time)

If you had the day off from everything, what would you be doing?
I would divide my time between weight lifting, working in my garden while listening to an audio book, and playing video games.

Favorite thing about living in southern Wisconsin:
Living at Nashotah House has enabled me to come close to my life long dream of not owning a car and riding a bicycle everywhere. While I still own a car, I rarely have to drive anywhere unless I am going to church or getting groceries.

What else should we know about you:
One of my favorite things in life is to grow a hot sauce garden where I plant 4 dozen jalapeno plants and a couple dozen tomatillo plants along with a handful of habanero peppers. I make and can green salsa.
