First Anniversary of St. Francis Mission

To celebrate our first year in ministry in Lafayette Square (St. Louis, MO) we wanted to have some wonderful outreach events for the month to show the local community how much we care and how much we want to continue to be a true presence of Jesus in the lives of those around us!

“People don’t care how much you know- until they know how much you care!”

We kicked off this month with a fundraiser night at a local Snow-cone chain called – Bahama Bucks in St. Peters. We had a grand time as we all enjoyed a snow cone or two. Many friends, family, and co-workers came out to support to make the event a success. If your church has this franchise close by- contact the local manager to have a fund raising night, it’s a lot of fun.

f7772005-aff7-4a0f-9f92-41ab8808dac6To include “all creatures of our God and King,” in the schedule of events – we had a special Animal Blessing Booth at the “Strange Folk Festival” in Lafayette Square. This is a local Indie Arts and Crafts Festival that has an attendance of 30,000+ people. We set up our booth with free treats from Purina Farms, people treats, a dog water bowl, and Fr. Dan Kinkead was there for both days to perform pet blessings and give out information about our church as well as hand painted bookmarks with our website. We started out our days in prayer asking for God’s presence to be there with us as we wanted to bless the community and care and love on pets and their people. The response was incredible- we gave out more than 500 pet treat bags, blessed more people and pets than we could count and had a wonderful time meeting folks from all over the St. Louis region. This event even brought visitors to church!

Our second event was in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. We were blessed to be asked to do a pet blessing at a local Greyhound event in a park across from Jefferson Barracks. This event had over 200 people and 300+ dogs in attendance. The day and dogs were beautiful! Amazed by God’s creation- these dogs are truly the gentlest of the breeds. Many people asked about church and were excited to hear that they could even bring their pet to church!

To wrap up our anniversary month, we are hosting a Trivia Night that will co-benefit a local no-kill animal shelter- Stray Rescue STL. Donations have come in from so many local businesses, restaurants, hotels, tourist spots, concerts, and business people- we have been totally blessed by their generosity.

We look forward to an exciting fall season, blessing more pets and the people who care for them, with continued growth in the St. Louis area.
