Anglican CharitiesIn the past year, Anglican Charities has collected and distributed food items valued at $336,885. Since the Bishop established the Anglican Charities, the total is now $1,736,403 (not including the value of vehicles, clothing, furniture, etc.). Anglican Charities is virtually self-funded, relying almost exclusively on the generosity of others.
The poor and disadvantaged are always with us, and we at Anglican Charities are working hard on their behalf. As our reputation has grown in the Peoria area, we have become something of a clearinghouse for local companies. Recently a cleaning supply company donated four pallets of cleaning supplies to us for the hurricane relief last year that we funneled to the Red Cross. One local company, as they rotate their fleet of vehicles, pass them on to us, and we in turn, donate them to others. Five vehicles so far! The Charity still actively supports SAMS no-kill animal shelter in Hanna City. We recently petitioned the local hardware store for window-screen material to make a secure space on an enclosed porch to allow them to put some cats out there during the day to get fresh air. The Charity still supports the Senior Center in Hanna City, and supplies many of its residents with food and other necessary items. |
We work with several churches and groups on a weekly basis. We have partnered with the Alpha Park Library, which gives us their used children’s books, which we pass on to the Dream Center, a transitional center for the homeless. Our latest endeavor is partnering with a lady who rehabilitates raptors, birds of prey. She works with the Wildlife Prairies Park and local veterinarians. She is 92 years of age - a grand lady - who has been doing this all out-of-pocket, so we now send chicken drumsticks and newspapers her way to line the cages. The Charity has established a working relationship with St. Georges in Macomb bringing used clothing from a Thrift Shop which we pass on to agencies such as The Dream Center and Loaves and Fishes in Peoria, which have a ‘Dress for Success’ store providing free dress clothes for job interviews.
